Pr. Louis XVI Gilt Bronze & Porcelain Pot Pourri Vases
One pair fine ormolu-mounted bleu nouveau porcelain pot pourri vases and covers, the domed vases each with pine cone finial and pierced frieze filled with Vitruvian scrolls, flanked by lion-mask and ring handles, joined by lion pelts with foliate socle and channelled square base, filled with greek key decoration, 19th. C.; measuring 17 3/4" high (45.1cm), 12" wide at handles (30.5cm); A pair of vases of this model in the Lazienski Palace, Warsaw are inscribed DULAC MD RUE ST HONORE A PARIS, and it seems that this model emanated from the celebrated marchand-mercier Antoine Dulac (see: P. Verlet, "Les Bronzes Dores Francais du XVIIIe siecle, Paris, 1987, figs. 66 and 67 and p.263 and p.444). Another pair can now be found at Fountainbleau.
